How to Decanter

Below is a method for decantering your bottle of port. I hope you find it useful!
1. Stand the bottle up for as long as possible. This allows the sediment to fall naturally to bottom of the bottle.
2. Remove the cork slowly so as not to disturb the sediment that has collected at the bottom of the bottle.
3. Slowly pour the Port into a decanter, stopping just before the sediment starts to flow out of the bottle.
If you are like me and don’t like to see good port go to waste at the bottom of the bottle it is possible to filter out the sediment using a muslin cloth. Place a muslin cloth into a funnel, and place the funnel over a container. Pour the remaining port into the funnel. The sediment should remain within the muslin cloth.
